Coctel is Spanish for cocktail and in this case, a seafood cocktail. Here in Veracruz I enjoyed a coctel campechana, or mixed seafood cocktail.
Shrimp, octopus, oysters and avocado in a luscious tomato sauce with lots of cilantro. This huge glass full was only 45 pesos or about 3.75 CDN (or USD, they are pretty much at par right now.)
Some people might not like the idea of raw oysters in their seafood cocktail, but was slurpin’ those puppies down big time!

my friend señor Bowen is eating his way around Mexico. This is his coctel campecha that he had in Veracruz. Wish I was there!
