Comedor el Almendro

The dirt floors here are well raked, just in case the tourists come early, or appear out of nowhere like we did this morning.

Montepio is on the Costa del Oro and the place gets wall to wall with tourists during the winter break and during Semana de Santa. Every piece of beach  gets a tent thrown up.

This morning we’re the only visitors so we’re having what they’ve got. Freshly made queso empanadas to start. The sauce is chili-based with just the right amount of bite.

Somehow there was a mix up and we each got a second empanada. It was beginning to look like lunch would not be required.
Next up, fried plantain with crema and queso. All this delicious food in a dirt-floor joint by the crashing surf. And no lineups

Great Tacos in Catemaco

Taqueria Santo Torbio in Catemaco, Veracruz was hopping on December 12th, the festival of Guadalupana.

Here you see three of their delicious tacos: Lengua (cow tongue), Cabeza (cow head) and Al Pastor

That was good!

But I am still hungry, so here’s two more: a Sesos taco (cow brain) and an Ubre taco (they tell me this is cow teat!)
